The company refused to ship it to destination of my choice, would only ship to a store. They would not ship to the company installing it in my trailer, forcing me to have other transport from the store.

Feb 28, We see the questions all the time — people wondering: What will it take to run an RV air conditioner off of solar power? Usually those asking are honestly naive about what will be required — assuming that a small investment in a few hundred watts of solar panels and maybe an extra battery or two is all that it will take to be basking in off-grid cold air all summer long.
Make sure the charge controller you select has a high enough amp rating for your solar panels. To find out how many amps your panels produce, simply look on the label or read the spec sheet. Whatever total you get, add 25% of that to it to get a final number. This allows for excessive power generation caused by “edge of cloud” effects.

It will be a bit boring for anyone who isn’t interested in solar power, but I wanted to write it like this because I had a tough time finding all of this information tied together. The DC ones run off the battery and these include things like lights, the water pump, the vent fan s , and anything you can plug into a 12v socket.
The AC ones are primarily the air conditioner and the microwave. They get their power from either plugging the RV in to a campsite or v socket at a house or by running the generator. The generator uses gas somewhere between half and a full gallon per hour from the main tank. Because the generator is too loud and costly to run all the time, I almost never use mine.
Another way you can increase the efficiency of your RV solar panels is by giving thought to the layout of your RV’s interior before you put up your solar panels. When you have a solar panel on your RV, you will need to park your rig so that your solar panel tilts to the south.
You can’t expect a tiny 10 watt Solar Panel or a small Wind Generator to power an Air Conditioning unit for the whole weekend at anchor, yet you don’t want to install 2 80 watt Solar Panels to simply keep your batteries topped up or trickle charge while you’re not there. You need to Ask Yourself some simple questions: Do you want to become “self-sufficient” for longer periods at anchor?
You want to pollute less, and help save the environment for your kids? You want some safe, clean, quiet, and renewable energy for your boat? You want to be a liveaboard “on the hook”, and not be fuel dependent? You’re tired of running your engine to try and recharge the batteries? Did you truthfully answer Yes to more than two questions? Than you will have to seriously consider adding some “clean power” to your houseboat.

Most of us have at least a nodding acquaintance with the battery that start our cars, but what about the batteries used in our Recreational Vehicles? Are they the same? Multiple RV batteries may be wired together to make a single power source. These house batteries have different characteristics than the batteries used to start an engine. Motorhomes, of course, have an engine and require an engine starting chassis RV battery, but this is always separate from the house battery system.
The starting chassis battery in a motorhome is the same type as used in a car, though often with a larger CCA Cold Cranking Amps rating because the engine is larger.
Using Solar Panels For Primary Electrical Power. The second use of solar panels is to provide primary power to RV house systems. This involves the installation of several solar panels and other gear, together sometimes called a solar kit, to create and regulate enough .
There is now a choice of purchasing lightweight flexible polycrystalline solar panels. These could have been used to reduce the weight of our portable solar array, but we would have needed to build a frame, and these are not as solar efficient. Again we went for the higher priced, but more versatile and efficient unit. We chose a 30amp MPPT controller. For a watt system, a amp controller would be more than sufficient one watt solar cell generates under six amps.
But we chose the higher amp rating so we could add additional solar cells in the future. The MPPT controller also allowed us to wire the two watt solar cells in series generating 24 volts, which this controller can handle. This allowed us to use a lower gauge thinner electrical wire, and allowed us to run longer wires from the solar cells with less power loss in the wiring. A PWM charge controller requires the solar cells to be wired in parallel generating 12 volts; not a huge negative.
We could have saved some money, as many of the prebuilt solar kits use a PWM charge controller, but we wanted to use an upgrade in our system.
